Burton is a kind, lonely scarecrow who takes his responsibilities seriously. His job is watch over the garden and keep the crops safe from the animals. When animals come to take something, he offers something of his own in place of it. In the end, he has done so much for them, that he is suffering. Thankfully, his new friends come along to help with his condition.
This is a great book for children of all ages. Our 4 1/2 year old really enjoyed and can’t wait to read this again. The book teaches children about friendship, character, gardening, and farming. I love the emphasis on friendship that shows the give and take of relationships.
