I take every chance I get to get new books for my kids. The Deep Black Pond sounded like a fun book that was different from what we normally have around the house. I had a great time reading this book myself and I’m sure it’s going to be a story my kids want to hear over and over through the years. For now, Grace (3) enjoys the pictures most and Darren… well, he’s almost one and would only think it’s a new snack if he got his hands on it. 🙂
This is a very fun book about a pond on a tropical island and the creatures that live in and around it. One character Mimi becomes the very first pink pearl and helps bring some of the other creatures together as friends. The pictures are beautiful and very fun. Some of the pictures I found took a little time to figure out what was what, but they all really add to the story to see how the author has designed each character and their surroundings.
One of my favorite lines from the book is: “Moving very slowly, as pond scum is likely to do, Eggbert oozes down the corridors of the castle and to the nearest window to see what has happened.”
This great children’s book was written by Morgan Kostival, of Florida. He says that he writes children’s books to help preserve his child-like imagination that most adults forget they ever had. I think it’s great and I hope to be able to read (and of course, review!) his future books!
If you have any children in your life, you should check into getting them a copy of Morgan Kostival’s The Deep Black Pond. This 50 page book is intended for children ages 8 to 12, so keep that in mind. This would make a great birthday, Christmas, or just because gift.
You can purchase your copy via amazon.com or the publisher’s website for $18.
